Please note that because iTunes limits the number of episodes displayed to 300, to start at the beginning of my retelling of the story of England, you need to SUBSCRIBE. You'll then find a regular, chronological podcast, starting from from the end of Roman Britain. I’m a bloke in a shed, but I make sure this is good, properly prepared history, and then fill it with my enthusiasm. You’ll find the great events and people for sure – but also some of the byways, of how people lived, their language, and the forces that shaped their lives and destinies.

Great podcast about English history! David really paints a colourful picture of English history, detailed and with funny asides.
Also recommended is his website thehistoryofengland.co.uk with extras such as family trees and maps.

Great podcast if you like History
More details than I expected, broader views than I hoped for (yeah for attention to women and peasants!) and funny to boot. A joy to listen to.

Great fun and in depth topic discussion
I'm a big fan of history podcasts, and I really like this one. I'm only on the back catalogue and only listened to 90 episodes so far. The story is told in a very enjoyable way with loads of humor and this is offset to a very thorough treatment of the periods. We get an apology now and again for digressions, but these add to the story tremendously. I'm just really thankful I've got over a 100 episodes lined up, since having to wait for them to appear would test my patience...

Simpele wonderfull
As history podcasts go "the history of England" is absolutely wonderful. David weaves a compelling story using both political, economic and social history and a good dose of dry English humor. I would recommend this to anyone only slightly interested in history in general and for anyone interested in English or British history it's an absolute must.

Amusing and very thorough
David Crowther has created a fantastic postcast series. Bringing a very thorough and interesting history of England with a nice doses of (British) humour which is also great to listen to for foreigners such as myself. From time to time he does get bogged down in old-fashioned chronological military political history with streams of names, places and dates, but he makes up with general overviews and social history episodes. He also pays attention to source criticism and historiography, which makes this series way better than just some amateur telling of England’s past.
