In this week's episode, Charlie Jermyn reads from Chapter 1 of his debut book, ‘The Boy, The Bucket and The Persistent Tide’; a collection of essays and short non-fiction pieces about an Irishman’s life in the Netherlands, the persistence of the ordinary, and the art of paying close attention before the tide of time comes in again.
Five years ago, Charlie Jermyn came to the Netherlands for university. To escape his small student room in Leiden, he ventures out into the vast, flat country, befriends pigs, and retraces Rembrandts footsteps. He explores the making of the Dutch landscape and how he can build a landscape of his own through writing. 
The Boy, The Bucket and The Persistent Tide is published by Bog Bodies Press, an independent Irish publisher based between Galway and Brussels that looks beyond literature; existing to gather people around unbounded storytelling, both on and off the page.
