Since his untimely death in 1924, Franz Kafka (b. 1883) has become a global phenomenon. Every generation has discovered ‘its’ Kafka. In this series aimed at students, researchers and the general public, Dame Kristin Scott Thomas reads selected Kafka short stories in English translation, a homage to the popularity of public recitals of literature during Kafka's lifetime. The episodes are recordings of a live recitation in 2024 (the centenary of Kafka’s death) that was organised by the AHRC-funded research project Kafka’s Transformative Communities (University of Oxford) in collaboration with not-for-profit arts organisation Bold Tendencies.
