The damaged record reveals Margaret's grandmother Elizabeth visited Silas in 1974—still young at twenty-three despite being born in 1901, with water streaming continuously from her eyes instead of tears. Elizabeth's hidden photos show thirteen pregnancies over fifty years with only Margaret's mother surviving, while the twelve "dead" babies appear as ghostly water-children aging in the backgrounds. Margaret discovers the horrifying truth: Blackwood women aren't just witnesses but ARE the Pattern itself, existing simultaneously across all Octobers, and Elizabeth made a deal to provide twelve children for the deep and one for the surface. The twelve never-born siblings materialize in the library as water-children with bent limbs and gills, showing Margaret a photograph from October 31st, 2025—two weeks in the future—of herself drowning in the town fountain while thousands of souls either follow her up to salvation or down to damnation.
