Beschrijving

This podcast is an introduction to Anglophone literature, from ancient times to the present, done by a Ph.D. with lots of books and musical instruments. A typical episode offers a summary of a work, or part of a work of literature, followed by some historical analysis. The episodes include original music, some comedy songs, and goofy jokes. You can listen to the shows in any order, although from time to time, episodes will make brief mention of previous or upcoming ones.

This podcast is a gift. It is entertaining, and occasionally downright adorable - but more importantly, it is, as a way into the works and history of western writing, both comprehensive and easily comprehensible. It makes every work it treats accessible and exciting, and situates it in the development of the world as we know it, and thus gives you a chance at being at home as a thinking, feeling human being in the overwhelming flood of history. If you’re into literature, and especially if you feel daunted by the mass and (supposed) gravitas of the canon, this podcast is for you.

This is a true gem for those interested in the history of Western thought. Approaching this subject through English literature and its precedssors allows the author/ producer to explore the basis for much of our understanding of Western philosofy and intellectual thought.
Dr. Metzger expertly uses his experiece as a teacher to meaningfully connect with his audience and keep them hooked for more.
