Following Team Leopard Trek and the Schleck Brothers, this film focuses upon the team's participation in the prestigious 2011 Tour de France. It is an intimate cinematic portrait of two brothers and a team under pressure to live up to the expectations of their country. "The Road Uphill" documents the relationships, motivations and belief systems integral to Leopard Trek – core aspects of the team which are not usually exposed by television reportage. This documentary investigates the day-to-day life of a professional cycling team and the physical, mental and emotional thresholds that they need to surmount to win the greatest race on earth.

The Road Uphill - Leopard-Trek
This feature documentary chronicles the Schleck brothers and their Leopard-Trek team during the build-up to the Tour de France and their ups and downs in the the Tour de France of 2011. Additional roles are set aside for time trial specialist and former world champion, Fabian Cancellera, and veteran Jens Voigt.
The film has some great shots. Especially such moments as where you see the haunted face of Frank Schleck after having finished a climb where he dug really deep and the moment at the final time trail stage where you see the doubt on the face of the team manager whether or not to tell Andy that he is losing time and - ultimately the Tour - against Evans. Although the film has these moments, I felt that it could have gone more in depth from time to time. In particular concerning the impact Wouter Weylandt's fatal crash had on the team and the Schleck brothers and the sacrifices they had to make to get ready for the Tour.
As it is not possible to give 3.5 stars, I am giving this documentary the benefit of the doubt and am ranking it at 4 stars.
